Coerver® England & Wales delivered the first ‘Play Like the Stars’ Roadshow of 2017 on Friday 24th February. Coerver® EW staff Luke Cheyne, Chris Ward-Jones and Jaime Eagles all travelled to Keighley, West Yorkshire in order to work with young footballers at Silsden AFC.

86 players from the club turned out to participate in a three-hour session which included a theory presentation using the latest video analysis and statistics followed by an on-field practical session is delivered using the latest Coerver® Coaching methods and football training equipment.

Ronald Tetteroo is a volunteer coach at the club and was instrumental in organising the much anticipated event. “First of all, I must play huge compliments to the Coerver coaches on their execution today with our players in the U7 to U15 age groups” said Ronald. “As a young footballer, I was privileged to have been given lessons from the Dutch master Wiel Coerver himself. Following on from my own personal Coerver® Coaching experience, I was extremely pleased that Silsden AFC embraced the opportunity to host this Roadshow.”

“Our players have experienced first hand this proven methodology that has been praised by the football greats such as Johan Cruyff, Arjen Robben and Vincent Del Bosque but to name a few.”

“This has been an amazing opportunity for the club to have our coaches and players of all age groups benefit from high level football training. The focus on technique and mastery of the ball will no doubt help to boost the confidence in our players and will ultimately help us to develop technical balanced footballers.”

“As a football fan I could not be more happy that Coerver® Coaching came to our club. Parents have posted very positive feedback from their youngsters following a of the day of Playing like the Stars.”

Luke Cheyne, Coerver® EW’s Head of Coaching said “This has been an exceptional start to the 2017 Roadshow calendar. We have been extremely fortunate today – we have worked with 86 aspiring young footballers at the tremendous University of Keighley facilities on a sunny day in February!”

“The Play Like the Stars Roadshow is an opportunity for us to work with players across the country who ordinarily may not have exposure to the Coerver® method. We feel that we can make a real difference in youth football in England & Wales and the PLTS Roadshow is a tremendous vehicle for us to connect with players, coaches and clubs – we look forward to what plans to be a busy 2017 of roadshow events!”

England continued their preparations for Saturday’s potentially record-breaking Six Nations clash with Ireland, under the watchful eye of a study group from Coerver® Coaching at the team’s training HQ at Pennyhill Park in Surrey.

Coerver® England and Wales Director, Scott Wright and Head of Coaching Luke Cheyne joined Coerver® Coaching Co-Founder Alf Galustian, CEO Jimmy Galustian and Newcastle United Academy Director, Joe Joyce to watch England’s preparation ahead of the game in Dublin.

Having already secured the Six Nations title with a 61-21 victory over Scotland at Twickenham last weekend, England are on the verge of over-taking the All Blacks’ record successive first class international victories, with a win against Ireland on Saturday seeing Eddie Jones’ squad of talented and determined players take their tally to 19, 18 of which have come under Jones’ tenure. A positive result on Saturday would also see England secure their second consecutive Grand Slam, their first since 1991/92 season.

Following the intense training session, head coach Eddie Jones took time out of his busy schedule for a discussion with the group as he prepares his side for the opportunity that lies ahead at the Aviva Stadium, sharing an insight into how he has instilled such success into the England camp.

Coerver® England & Wales Director Scott Wright (pictured above with James Haskell and Courtney Lawes) said “It was a phenomenal experience to see the preparation ahead of such an important and historic match. The attention to detail and the way in which the session was structured was something I’ve never seen before in football.”

“The intensity of the session was incredible when you consider it is only a couple of days before such a big match. Then to sit down with Eddie Jones, who is a huge admirer of the Coerver Coaching programme, to discuss the details around the session and coaching in general was the icing on the cake of what was an unbelievable experience. We were made to feel really welcome, and the openness of all of the staff showed real class.”

“It’s no surprise that England rugby is seeing so much success on the pitch at the moment. To see such fantastic leadership from both players and staff, precise planning with each element of the session meticulously executed at such a high intensity throughout, really was something special and I’m looking forward to seeing the game plan come off on Saturday.”

Coerver® England & Wales Head of Coaching Luke Cheyne added: “From a professional perspective, to be up so close and personal with the squad and staff ahead of a game of such magnitude on Saturday and in the middle of a hugely successful period in the history of English rugby, is an experience that I will never forget. We gained a great insight into the environment that has bred so much success recently. We have been lucky enough in recent years to visit and work within a number of professional environments, including FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid within the last 12 months, so to add this visit is really special.”

“Pennyhill Park has seen a number of well documented visits during this Six Nations campaign, with England Manager Gareth Southgate, Chelsea’s Antonio Conte and former England cricket captain Alastair Cook all sharing ideas, and it’s great for us to join that sort of company. With a long and illustrious history over he past 33 years, we at Coerver Coaching are constantly looking to learn and bring new ideas that can help to continually evolve and develop our programmes all over the world.”

“From a personal point of view, as a rugby player myself and a huge England rugby supporter, this was certainly up there with one of the greatest experiences I have ever had. To watch the boys training, with an intensity to everything they do, underpinned by a phenomenal work rate and willingness to improve each and every day. I’m really excited for the game in Dublin this weekend and I’m confident we’ll see us win another Grand Slam. We look forward to further visits to Pennyhill in the future, and we thank Eddie and his staff for such fantastic hospitality.”

Last weekend saw Coerver® England & Wales Director, Scott Wright, travel back to the Spanish capital city of Madrid to lecture on the Real Madrid University MSc in Talent Identification and Development in Soccer Course at the Villaviciosa de Odon campus.

Having first received an invitation to lecture on the course in 2014, this occasion has made it four years in a row that Scott has delivered to students on the course – a course that is jointly ran by the European University of Madrid (Universidad Europea) and the World’s biggest football club, Real Madrid CF.

Two theory and two practical based Coerver® coach education sessions were delivered to this year’s intake of MSc students who were selected from around the world to attend the prestigious course.
“It was a great honour to be invited back for the fourth year in a row to lecture to this year’s Real Madrid university MSc students – students who have re-located to the Spanish capital for the year long course from across Spain and beyond” said Scott. “The course itself has a number of unique elements, firstly the applied knowledge of the faculty of staff really is on a different level to any course such as this that I am aware of.”

“Presenters are brought in from across the professional game who are currently working with some of the world’s leading clubs and national teams. For example, on the Friday before I delivered, the head of Sevilla FC’s academy worked with the students. This course provides them with a truly global view of current football trends and methods, not just in the classroom but equally out on the pitch.”

“When you combine this with the knowledge and experience of the course students, with a number already working within the professional game and blend that with the knowledge and experience of the biggest sports club in the world, this truly is a benchmark Master’s degree in the field of Football and creates an incredible learning environment for all.”

“The global football network that is associated to the course enables the students to work with, visit and collaborate with the worlds’ leading football clubs and organisations and it’s great for ourselves at Coerver® Coaching to be classed within that bracket by the directors of the MSc course here at the Real Madrid university.”

“As an example, three of the students from last years in-take are now working full-time within the Real Madrid academy so the pathway is most certainly in place for students to progress into roles directly from the course.”

“Once again, we have received fantastic feedback from the students and course directors who feel that the Coerver® methodology adds real value and supplements the existing modules of work and current knowledge base that they have.”

“We look forward to continuing our relationship here with the Real Madrid university and returning to Spain during the new academic year which will be our fifth consecutively – to date we are the only lecturers to have been invited to the course from the UK which of course is a huge honour for us.”
